Vermont-based designer Christian Brown's Echo tables are made from "salvaged wood, reclaimed eco-resin, and stainless steel hardware." Brown's work has been making the blog rounds lately, but as he's relatively new--his site went up in October, and the "About" section has yet to be completed--we don't have much information on the guy. You can however check out a gallery of his work here.

I can turn it off without pulling a cord just to turn it. It is saved the energy when I sometimes turn off the outlet of the household appliance which I do not use.

The Cut&Paste crew are hitting 2009 hard with their line-up of 2D, 3D, and Motion Design battles in sixteen cities worldwide. If you're not familiar with the format, designers compete in 20 minutes rounds live on stage in front of an audience until there is only one left. This year, the first ever global championship will be held in New York where all 48 winners will converge olympiad-style.

If you think you've got the skliz and can make it to one the hosting cities, there's still time to sign-up. The deadline for North America is January 14, Europe and Asia/Pacific is February 6th.

Core77 caught the first-ever Industrial Design edition of Cut&Paste at the recent Autodesk University event in Las Vegas.

jonathan puckey is a graphic designer based in amsterdam who creates work that borders on art and
employs technology in new ways. one of his projects which demonstrates his particular approach to
graphic design is ‘delaunay raster’: a series of images created using a bunch of digital tools. we previously
featured the ‘trace a face’ book release party. puckey describes the process, ‘tool assisted delaunay
image vectorization using scriptographer and color averaging by jürg lehni.’ this process turns normal
images into a strange geometric array of colours. while the process is complicated, the result boils down
an image to its essentials.

UK artist lauren porter gained notoriety with her 2006 sculpture ‘twelve miles of yarn’, which was a full-scale
ferrari, made from knit yarn. the project was a success and led to her traveling across canada to examine
native craft techniques. when she returned to the UK, porter began a new series entitled ‘hunting trophy’.
these new works are executed in white textiles and lace depicting horns, heads and other hunting trophies.
the calm and serene pieces are a big contrast from the gruesome and barbaric nature of the real trophies.

Inspired by automotive design, the new brand Altreforme was launched at Design Miami by Valentina Fontana. Altreforme specializes in elegant and extremely sculptural furniture in aluminum that ranges from 1.25 to 8 mm in thickness, so the pieces are lightweight and sinuous. Shown above is Mariù by Aziz Sariyer, a curvy console table. Sariyer is also the designer of the Cioccolata bookcase and the Liquirizia seating, shown after the jump along with Monza, a racetrack-inspired mirror by Valentina Fontana.

Today is the unveiling of the new Philippe Starck Zikmu wireless speakers for Parrot. These sleek speakers feature a docking station for an iPod or iPhone, surround sound technology and a broad range of wireless capabilities. The two speakers, which radiate sound from both sides, can be placed anywhere in a room and work without wires. The minimalist speakers are 2.5 feet tall, so are perfect for those seated on a sofa or at a desk.

Alcantara® LAB held the Extraordinary, Every Day Travel Contest to find new items that incorporate Alcantara upholstery to help us through our daily nomadism and improve any journey we take. The first prize went to Francesco Marcellini for Bag Lap, a laptop bag that becomes a work surface. The second prize went to Ozio, a travel case that also functions as a seat, by the I.DE.A Institute Design Centre. Make waiting times more comfortable. Reporter, a travel digital camera by Paolo Virgolini, took third place, and a special prize was awarded to Add-Off, by Cristian Ciacchiné, Alice Cappelli and Leandro Lisboa. This item consists of a pair of ear-covers and an eye mask that wrap up together.
